Whether it’s a night down at the karaoke, an up-and-coming band looking to impress, or a rock-and-roll god showcasing his talents, covers are part of musical society. ‘Standards’ in their own right, they often display a different taking of the same words and the same chords of the original. Sometimes, and even in one such case above, they can be done for fun (..thanks, Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Thanks a bunch). But, more often than not – in this playlist, I feel – the artist has made it their own. Spectacularly.
